Lavender flowers bloom between late June to September. They are harvested at their peak to extract valuable essential oil.  Lavandula Angustifolia is the genus name. It has 47 known species of flowering plants. They are found in different parts of the world, on Cape Verde, the Canary Islands, Europe, North and Eastern Africa, the Mediterranean, Southwest Asia to Southeast India. The Lavender shrub is a perennial plant that grows to about 3 feet in height. The purple-blue flowers grow in clusters on the thin long stalks of the plant.

Lavender essential oil is highly potent and prized. Oil enthusiasts consider this essential oil to be a miracle oil. This oil has been used for thousands of years by the Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans. The ancient Greeks called it Lavender Nardus, after the Syrian city of Naarda. It was one of the herbs used to prepare Spikenard, that is mentioned in the Bible in different books.
