It has 47 known species of flowering plants. They are found in different parts of the world, on Cape Verde, the Canary Islands, Europe, North and Eastern Africa, the Mediterranean, Southwest Asia to Southeast India. Orange essential oil is extracted from the fruit peels of sweet orange (Citrus sinensis).This citrus variety is a native of China. It is called sweet orange oil to distinguish it from other citrus family essential oils derived from bitter oranges – like the Bergamot essential oil obtained from Citrus bergamia.

The orange evergreen tree has dark green leaves with white flowers and bright orange round fruit, varying in size, with leather-like skin. The trees are native to China, but are now cultivated extensively in different parts of the world, especially America.

The main active components in orange essential oil are limonene, myrcene, citronellal, neral, alpha-pinene, geraniol, Linalool, and sabinene. Uses for Orange Essential Oil:

Control Acne: Orange oil can help reduce acne in people with oily skin. It helps cut the oil production by your skin glands. Add 5 – 6 drops of orange oil to a cup of water and wash the face with a soft towel before going to bed.

The Orange oil acts as an astringent, a deep pore cleanser when used with a light carrier oil like olive oil or sweet almond oil. Mix 4 – 6 drops of orange oil to a tablespoon of carrier oil and apply on your face with a cotton ball. Wipe after 5 minutes. This will help cleanse makeup off your face leaving your skin refreshed before going to bed at night.

For treating acne, use a cotton swab to dab a few drops of sweet orange oil on the acne. The antiseptic cleansing effect of the orange oil helps kill bacteria and clear up acne in a few days, depending on how worse your acne is.

Another way to use orange essential oil for swollen feet is to add it into a relaxing foot bath. Add warm water to a wide plastic or aluminum basin then add a mixture of 2 tablespoons sea salt and 15 drops of orange essential oil. Immerse your tired and swollen feet in the water for 30 minutes. Do this daily and do not stop this practice for any reason as you age. This helps you relax every evening before going to bed while bringing down the swelling in your feet.
